Chicago Bloggers Relaunches on the Metablogs Platform

04.02.08 | Permalink | Comments Off

After several months of discussion and a few weeks of private testing, we’re pleased to announce the relaunch of Chicago Bloggers using the same web platform that runs our site Houseblogs.net.

Chicago Bloggers is owned and operated by the folks behind Gapers Block and it represents the first time we’ve used the technology behind Houseblogs to run a different site. We’re proud to be working with one of the original blogging teams that helped create the Chicago blogging community on this new joint project.

We’re also using this opportunity to also launch the site Metablogs.net, which explains how both sites work and will act as a hub of sorts as we take the idea further. You can expect to see more metablogs in the coming weeks and months.

Like Houseblogs.net, we expect all three sites to remain a work in process for quite a while. Ideas and feedback are always welcome–we’re excited to see more people participate in our blogging communities and we’re eager to see where things go from here!

We’ll be speaking this weekend at the annual meeting of the Friends of Preservation in Iowa City. Our topic is “the Internet as your toolbox” with a particular focus on how houseblogging helps readers and writers alike with DIY and home improvement projects.

Many thanks to Mike Haverkamp, president of the organization, for the invitation.

About Us

HiP Media?

Welcome to HiP Media, LLC, a Chicago-based collaboration between Aaron and Jeannie Olson.

Why ‘HiP Media’?

HiP Media refers to the first website we ever started–House in Progress–that we continue to use to chronicle our restoration of a neglected bungalow in Chicago and share the world of amateur home improvement with others.

What does HiP Media do?

Together, Aaron and Jeanne manage several web properties, offer web services, and provide consulting related to online community and web-based learning. Aaron has a background in management and learning technologies. Jeannie has experience as an ethnographer, instructional designer and knowledge management consultant. They leverage their collective skills to design spaces where others can educate and collaborate.

What ‘web properties’ are you talking about?

HiP Media currently publishes two home-related sites: House in Progress and Houseblogs.net. Several other sites will be launching in late 2007 and early 2008.
